Once the surface is “dulled” and primed, you can apply your choice of wood paint as normal.
Can you paint wood with emulsion?
While you can use wall emulsion on wood to match your walls, it is generally not recommended for high-traffic areas. Emulsion is quite brittle and lacks the protective resins found in products like Johnstone’s Quick Dry Gloss.
If you do use emulsion, you must sand and prime the wood first, and it is highly advisable to seal it with a clear varnish afterwards to prevent it from chipping.
Can wood paint be used on walls?
It is possible, but not ideal. Wood paint is much thicker and harder to spread over large areas than wall paint, and it often has a higher sheen that highlights every lump and bump on a plastered wall.
Additionally, solvent-based wood paints can have a very strong odour that lingers much longer when applied to a large wall surface compared to a small door frame.
